It's all good though! :D

Peek at my new paintings

I finally got some productive time in my studio this week. Yea! I'm working on some new paintings for a local furniture store, but as one of my special peeps you get first dibs on these pieces. So if one of these makes your heart happy and you want it to brighten your home, get in touch because these beauties will be heading out the end of this month.

Here's a video peek above of one of the new paintings. I wanted you to be able to see the subtle texture in this piece.

I've pretty much outgrown my studio...one of several reasons we are selling our current home and will be house shopping very soon.

Hope you enjoyed this little peek at what I've been working on. These new paintings are all still in progress, but are very close to being finished. If you don't want to miss out on one of these new pieces, just email me and let's talk.

Until next time...

Much love and blessings to you!

Show yourself some love

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving {if you're in the US like me} last week! I spent the week gathering and cleaning and spending time with my family, which is what I am most thankful for.

As the weather has started cooling down and the skies have been more gray, I have found myself slowing down and going into somewhat of a hibernation mode....which happens to me at this time each year. It gets quite frustrating as I end up not painting as much as usual, which is not good...when I go too long without creating, I can get quite cranky. lol!

So I decided to post about this on Facebook to get some advice.....and oddly enough someone suggested using a light therapy lamp and diffusing mood lifting/immune system boosting essential oils in my home during the day, which I actually did last year, but had completely forgotten about with all that's going on for us at the moment.

Funny how in the daily scheme of things that self-care always gets put on the back burner....then we end up running on empty. We are so busy showing others how much we love them by what we do for them, that we forget to show ourselves love....you need to take care of YOU! It's not selfish.....it's necessary! Make time for the things that refuel, refresh, and revive you. It's SO worth it!

It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary.
— Mandy Hale

Today I pulled out my "HappyLight" {seriously, that's what it's actually called} and put a few drops of peppermint oil on my painting shirt so I could smell it as I went about working and I felt SO much more awake and energized today.

The painting pictured above is one I haven't worked on since the beginning of August....I pulled it out on Monday and dove back in. It feels quite bold and brave.....

like it's pushing me forward somehow.....

and I'm breaking out+growing at an accelerated rate. May be a game changing piece for me. I'm excited to see where it leads me.

Remember this painting above from my video two weeks ago? I still haven't added anything to it yet.....though after working on that other painting on Monday, I know exactly what this one needs to be done now. Sometimes one painting informs another....that's why I like having multiple pieces going at once.

I've got many paintings of various sizes {from 5"x5" up to 24"x24"} finished so I'll be making them available in a couple of weeks....be on the lookout for an email from me about that in the next week or so.

Lots of love and many blessings to you,
Paulette

P.S.
As always, I would absolutely love to hear from you! You can just hit reply on this email or leave me a comment here.

Video blog: new paintings + rearranging

In case you were wondering, no you didn't miss an email. I didn't send out one last week...my son was out of school most of last week and even though I had plans to paint, it just didn't work out that way. I'm sure you know exactly what im talking about. ;) So this week I decided to do a video blog....my first in.....well, years. So you're getting a special treat! To see a full view picture of my new paintings, you have to watch the whole video...it's less than four minutes, so it's a quick one.

If you can't see the video above, Click here.

Much love,
Paulette

P.S.
I have loved hearing from you! My heart fills up more and more with each and every email....and I read every single one. I think I'm all caught up replying to everyone, but if you haven't heard from me yet, you will soon. :) I'd love to hear what attracted you to my work...let me know by hitting reply to this email, clicking here to email me, or leave me a comment here on the journal.

A gift for you, filled with J O Y + L O V E

Last week, I shared a video of something that happens at the end of one of my paintings and many shots of paintings in progress. Thank you so much for all the positive feedback! I'm enjoying sharing like this with you in our secret space. :)

Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.

One of the things I love to do is create things digitally with my art.....like quote graphics for instance. I got to thinking.....how could I share something like this with you so that you could look at it every day? The answer.......phone wallpaper!!!! So I created these below for you {they are tailored for iPhones versions 4 & 5, so if they don't work for your phone please email me with your phone brand/version and I'll try to create another version or two based on the majority of the info I receive}. You can download the files at the links below the example graphic.

Below I've created a slideshow for you showing some of the steps in the creation of my painting titled "With An Everlasting Love". You'll see the many stages and layers that go into each of my abstract paintings. With each layer being a response to the layer before, each painting becomes a rich history of color and emotion as I work my way through each piece.

If you can't see the video below, click here to watch the video on the Insider Circle secret journal site.

Much love,
Paulette

As always, I would absolutely love to hear from you! Please leave me a comment here on the journal entry or just email me directly {or hit reply on this email}. And next week, I hope to be able to share some finished paintings with you.....Until then, wishing you a joy + love filled week!

Special video just for YOU!

Last Wednesday I showed you around my studio {and by all the emails I got, you really loved the studio visit}, so this week I'm giving you an upclose and personal look at my work from a different perspective.

I've started working a lot on paper lately {watercolor, bristol vellum, and mixed media papers} and I like to use tape to create a border around each piece.....then when the tape is removed it's like "TAA-DAA!!!!!". As way to let you experience this, I created a special little video especially for you! Enjoy!

New paintings...progression pics

As I was working on these newest pieces, I've been stopping to snap some pictures so that I could share more of the process and all the layers that go into my work. My abstracts are a complex series of layers that each build upon each other....informing the next layer as I go in and out of the piece.

I'm planning on having a release of new work early next month (2nd week of November possibly}, so I'm feverishly working to get these finished in time.....and you're seeing them first. :)

Here's a few more I've also been working on...

Welcome to my secret studio blog!

Hey there! This is where I'll be sharing with you every Wednesday (well, most Wednesdays) more in depth than on my public blog and social media. This is a secret space I created just for my special collectors and fans that are part of my Insider Circle. You'll get to see more progress pictures of pieces I'm working on than I usually share publicly, a look at what being a "professional artist" really looks like (there is so much more to it than just creating), occasional videos and vlogs, some of the things that inspire my work, and maybe I'll even sing a song or two for you at some point.....who knows! ;) :D

So settle in and let me show you around my studio!

A close up of the palette on my worktable

A close up of the palette on my worktable

I use a large piece of plexiglass I got locally years ago as my palette. Makes it super easy to just peel up the paint after the layers get thick. Then I have a nice clean palette again. I've heard that some painters like to use the large sheets of dried acrylic paint as collage in their paintings....which intrigues me, but I haven't tried it......yet. ;)

What my worktable looks like on any given day

What my worktable looks like on any given day

As hard as I try, I can't keep my worktable nice and organized. When I'm the midst of painting, I'm throwing down paint tubes and rags left and right....even when I start off my day by getting everything organized, it ends up looking like this again in a matter of minutes.

The creative process is messy.

....at least mine is.

This is just a small selection of my paintbrushes.....and these pics are probably not even half of my collection. You see, I have a bit of an addiction to buying paint brushes. I have a hard time leaving an art supply store without one....

Or three!

Below are all the paintings I have around my studio in progress {some of which I haven't even posted anywhere online, so you're getting to see pics of pieces in progress that no else has seen } and I think there may even be a couple of finished ones in there too.....and a couple ones from back in my whimsical figurative portrait days.

To wrap up my first entry in my secret studio journal, I wanted to show you another large painting I worked on last week...I've been shying away from sharing any more progress pics of this one because I wasn't 100% happy with how it was going at one point, but now I'm feeling really good about where it's heading.

Sometimes that happens.....thinking back on it now, I think there was something that I needed to resolve in myself, before I could be alright with what was happening on the canvas and continue to move forward. There is so much emotion embedded in these works that sometimes I think I get a bit overwhelmed with what's coming though.

That's when I have to take a break from a painting and  switch to a different one...

And sometimes just walk away from the studio completely and do something to recharge.

Painting is hard work....physically, mentally, and emotionally. Even though it can be quite challenging, I love what I do and I know it's what I was made for.

Below are some close ups/sweet spots of this new painting to give you a better idea of the complexities and texture of the piece. There are so many layers and each one is informed by the one before it.

Thank you so much for being a part of my Insider Circle! It means more to me than you know. I have so much planned for future entries already {have already started working on next week's....there will even be a short video. eek!} and am so excited to share more with you!

Much love,
Paulette
